Tired of using the cumbersome “.com” handle when going to pornographic sites? Well, at least now you’ll have a website handle that suits the site you’re traveling to, jerk (never end with a preposition). The Internet Corp. For Assigned Names and Numbers has dedicated the new suffix to pornographic material sites for the good of all mankind.
The new suffix, .xxx, has the best intentions in mind. Sites using it will be clean of spam, viruses, and other malware (so they say) and will be considered reputable sources for your disgusting habits. They’ll also be even more of a dead giveaway to your surfing habits when someone you know hops on your computer for a minute.
Adult sites will still be able to use the current “.com” suffix, but using the new “.xxx” suffix will give users peace-of-mind knowing the filthy sites they’re traveling to are clear of viruses… Or at least the kind of viruses that affect computers.
Perhaps the strangest news to come from this story is the Obama Administration’s stance on the whole thing. They, alone with a few other governments, have said that the new handle will cause oppressive regimes to block the suffix entirely. Personally, I’m not sure why the Obama administration cares about the porn habits of oppressed nations, but hey what do I know about foreign policy. (For the record, that wasn’t sarcasm… I truly know nothing about foreign policy.)
Pornographers aren’t too pleased with the new handle either, citing censorship as one of the major drawbacks to the suffix.
“This is putting a red target on us,” said Diane Duke, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association representing multiple adult-entertainment organizations including Hustler. “People who are pedophiles and child pornographers are not part of the adult-entertainment system. We have a code of ethics. We do a great job of creating an adults-only space.”
So basically, it seems like everyone hates the idea. If you’d like to read more about this decision, check out the source listed below. There’s really not much more I can say while maintaining some level of dignity.

Already planning out our “Noisecast After Dark” content.
“People who are pedophiles and child pornographers are not part of the adult-entertainment system. We have a code of ethics.
Oh, as if. “Barely Legal” anyone? The mainstream porn industry is totally supportive of underage porn.
