Okay, you guys have been dishing out headshots to the tune of $1 Billion dollars. That’s quite a feat for any game, especially in this crappy economy; but the kicker here is that the milestone was reached in just 16 days. To put it in perspective, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 took an a seemingly endless (read with a lot of sarcasm here) 60 days before it sold $1 Billion dollars worth of headshots and obnoxious trash talk.
Astonishingly enough, Activision is stacking up the dollars even though the industry as a whole has seen a 23% decrease in sales. In large part, due to the shitty economy. Activision’s Robert Kotick told the New York Times that the unreal sales figures were due to “Modern Warfare 3’s … broader appeal than it’s previous games.” Sure, if by broader appeal he meant less story.
If you’re not easily impressed by MW3’s financial success try this on for size; the previous record holder (in entertainment) to reach a billion dollars in sales was Avatar, which raked in $1B in 17 days.
