One of these works and the other doesn’t. Simple as that. Oh, it’s probably not that simple for you or I, but for this one-year-old baby, the very notion of non-interaction with media isn’t just foreign; it’s simply not effective.
That’s how far we’ve come with technology. For many people, the term “digital native” is not some far out utopian dystopian future where we’ve moved passed the dead tree format, we’re living in it. Just like kids born a decade ago may have only known iPods and not Walkmans or portable CD players, the kids being born in this decade will only know a world of fully interactive media.
Make of that what you will.
