Samsung announces their first Windows Phone 8 device

Earlier today, Samsung managed to do what is completely unheard of in the mobile phone industry, keep a secret and wow a crowd at a trade show. In a world where we know what next year’s iPhone is going to look like, component by component, Samsung not only managed to not only keep something from the all seeing eye of tech blogs, but even beat Nokia to the punch by unveiling their new Windows Phone 8 smartphone – the first official Windows Phone 8 device.

The Samsung ATIV S is the Windows Phone that may just win over folks who are more than picking up their first smartphone. The ATIV S is a smartphone worthy of your attention. The ATIV S sports a 720p 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera – yeah, two cameras to fully take advantage of that little application Microsoft bought a while back, Skype – your choice of 16 or 32GB internal storage that can be expanded with a MicroSD card, all fitting sveltely in an 8.7mm thin frame.

If this is the kind of phone that will be sporting Windows Phone 8 come this fall, it’s pretty safe to say that Windows Phone may win a few converts this holiday season. Check the gallery below for some more shots the Samsung Ativ S.
