Google gets a bit smarter, adds movie and game release dates to search

Google has added a new aggregator to its search feature that allows you to search for release dates for upcoming movies and video games. It gathers info from the top movie and game related sites as well as Wikipedia to give you as accurate a guess as possible on the actual release date of the thing you search for. Give it a try, type in “Star Wars The Old Republic release” into Google and see what pops up. Be warned that this won’t give you info on all upcoming games or movies. For example, “GTA V release” and “Star Trek 12 release” brought up nothing, so the algorithm does have a specific release validity it takes into consideration when it crunches the numbers. For example, I was able to get a release date for Gears of War 3 (September 20, 2011) but not Hitman 5 (which is sometime in Q4 2011). Regardless, this is a wonderful new addon that will eliminate all that sifting of websites people originally had to do in order to get relevant release date info.
