News sources reported two Libyan fighter jets landing in Malta and no one seemed to know why they were doing this. The reason has now been revealed. According to the AP, the pilots have asked for political asylum during the bloody crackdown on anti-government protesters in Libya. The Libyan airforce has reportedly been ordered to fire on civilian demonstrators and these two pilots refused to follow the orders.
The fighter pilots had initially asked the authorities of Malta for permission to land and refuel but requested asylum upon landing. I applaud the courage and nerve of these two pilots. Courage (or perhaps compassion) that their colleagues seem to lack if reports are to be believed about actual live fire from military aircrafts. Will this has little to do with tech directly, it is still worthy of mention. Another pic of the fighter jets after the jump.
