This Is An Explosion On The Sun Bigger Than The Earth Itself

This is the sun. It exploded today.

Watch this video. Then watch it again. Then remember that the sun has a diameter around 109 times that of the Earth. Then watch it again. Then remember that the sun’s surface area is almost 12,000 times that of the earth. Then watch it again. Then watch this video.

This is the kind of thing that should leave mortal men in awe. I’m not even going to try to write anymore. It’d just be useless blather that a giant universe that can take literal earth-shattering explosions like this in stride wouldn’t care one iota about.

Hug your loved ones.

Now just imagine if an explosion like that released some unknown form of gamma radiation that just shredded our atmosphere and incinerated any living organisms here. All the bickering of the past 10,000 years over land and ideals, all our knowledge and science, all just erased in an instant, by the solar equivalent of a belch.

There was a movie about this? (I have a 3-year old, I haven’t been to the movies in a while)
