Canalys, however, has released a new report indicating that Android has taken a full 48% of the global smartphone market share. That is, for every two people in the world who use smartphones, one of them is using Android (&#8230;.roughly). iOS is pulling up the rear with 19% of the smartphone market. Of course, it should be noted that this does not include iPod touches or iPads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>And then, there&#8217;s everyone else. Microsoft shipped about 1.5 million WP7 devices last quarter, which is a pretty dismal figure as far as smartphones go. For comparison, Android currently activates 550,000 devices daily, which means Android activates as many devices in 3 days as Microsoft activated in 3 months. iPhones, also, sold a respectable 20.34 million devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple also took the top manufacturer spot for the first time, dethroning Nokia, with Samsung creeping up from behind with 17 million devices sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The smartphone market has shifted dramatically from where it was just a few years ago. The world where Nokia, Symbian, WinMo, and RIM ruled the smartphone world is finally, and completely, at an end.
