The grad school search begins

OK, so after two weeks of doing absolutely nothing, I decided to start looking for grad schools to apply to. I wasn’t going to start for at least another month or two, but I figured I’d get it done now in case I want to go somewhere in a month or two. I bought the online subscription to the US News top grad schools of 2009 for $15 and I was going through schools that had good MBA programs that I can get into.

From the top 50 list I narrowed it down to 19 schools. Actually, make that 17 schools since two of those were University of Chicago and Northwestern University, at which both I have no chance of getting into. I printed out all the school profiles and analyzed them from cover to cover. The whole stack had to be at least 3-4 inches thick. So how the hell do I narrow it down? Well, I discovered that of those 19 schools, 6 offered an accelerated MBA program, where you can get your MBA in a year as long as you’re OK becoming a slave to your studies with no breaks or vacations for a year.

Sounds good to me. So I’ll be applying to 6…make that 5 cause one of those schools is Northwestern…grad schools for the accelerated MBA program. One of them has to take me in, right? I mean, I can’t do two more years of school, let alone four. I’ve had enough of school and I’m sure school has had enough of me. I gotta start searching for recommendations and I gotta start studying for the GMAT. At least this is all in the short term. I technically am still on vacation till June!

Today was a good day

It started off shitty because I went to the train station and realized that I had forgotten my backpack which had my paper that was due for my night class. I tried ditching my first class to go to the computer lab to redo my paper but Blackboard was down so I couldn’t do shit. I went to my class, which was a lot of fun for the professor because he likes listening to himself. Then my day got better because I went out to eat with my friends. At that point, I just decided to ditch class. After lunch we went and smoked hookah, and then decided to go eat around 6:00. At 6:15 my friend sends me a text message asking if I heard about the bomb threat. Bomb threat? Turns out my school received a bomb threat so all night classes in my building got canceled! Sweet! After an awesome dinner at Wildfire, I came home and waiting for me was a little brown Amazon.com box. Inside it? Grand Turismo 5: Prologue. Fuck yeah!

I’ve survived my first week

My first week of my last quarter in college went well. I like most of my professors, my classes are cool (they’re all electives, so they better be), and there’s hot bitches in my classes. This is going to be a good quarter, I can feel it.

On a side note, the people involved in my university’s Game Development Program and are part of the core community in our game labs are primarily clickish douchebags. The majority of them have a “holier than thou” attitude and if you’re not one of them, you have no chance of ever being one of them. They’re “cool” gamers. God forbid you don’t play Warcraft III (primarily DotA) or Guitar Hero, or listen to the same music they do. Plus it’s funny to see them have power struggles over the video game club leader positions. It’s like seeing three year olds fight over candy.
