A New Beginning

I’m back…briefly. The man who once dwelled in a section of the internet known as CryoCreations.com was MIA for almost six months. What happened? My domain name for that site was coming to its expiration date in February 2006. I decided not to auto-renew so I could register it again under a cheaper domain service. So I let it expire, and then my domain service told me about the 30 day period where my domain name would be auctioned off, and then finally released. No worries, right? Who the hell wants CryoCreations.com? Wrong. I get the email at the end of 30 days that my domain had successfully expired and been released. Within minutes I go to register it under the cheaper registrant. Domain unavailable? What the fuck? I think to myself it might be lag time, so I wait an hour and try again. Same error. My worst fears come to mind and I quickly do a WHOIS search on my domain. CryoCreations.com was now registered under some asshole company named WebContents.com based out of La Grange, IL. These fuckers buy expiring domain names and try to resell them back to the original owner, or to the highest bidder. And if you go to their site, you’ll see that any offer under $100 is considered “miniscule.” Hey dickheads, FUCK YOU. Have fun trying to sell my old domain, cause it has been six months and it still hasn’t been sold. Keep trying assholes. So after painfully trying to find a new domain name, I managed to grab this one. Not the most happy domain name out there, but it will do.

So I then go to my web hosting company and ask them to transfer my new domain name onto my service. They tell me that once a service is registered under a domain name, there is no transfer possible. Meaning, they just fucked me over on the rest of the year’s hosting that I paid for. I had to dish out another year’s worth of hosting just for my new fucking domain. I was livid.

I contemplated uploading my old site and continuing it, but that wouldn’t make sense. CryoCreations at DirtyPsycho.com? No way. My site needed a revamp anyway. I wanted something more flexible and powerful, and I didnt feel like handcoding my site from scratch. So I stumbled across a website powered by this software called ExpressionEngine. I got that software and installed in and tried fooling around with it on this site. It did what I wanted it to do, however customizing it was damn near impossible unless you had a dictionary of all the tags used in the code that are exclusive to this software. So I finally got pissed off and removed it and continued searching. Eventually I came across WordPress and to make a long story short, it was a perfect match for my site and my needs. It was simple, sleek, customizable, and had a huge fanbase and coding base.

I’ve spent much time on this site doing things I had planned on doing two years ago on my old site, such as import my entire Xanga archive. I have restored all old posts from my old site, all my LiveJournal entries (and their comments), and have transferred over my entire Xanga archive and its comments as well. What’s different about this site is that I no longer have a web design and music section. The music section might come back in the future, but not the web design. This site is focused entirely on me, because I’m a selfish and egoistic bastard. Then again, I’m launching this about two weeks before I leave for Greece for the summer. Originally I was planning to launch it when I came back, but what the hell, right?

I’m not planning anything fancy with this site. If you’re a friend and likes to read my stuff, then cool. If you take liking in my rants (which there will be more of in the future), cool. If you’re here by accident, drop a comment or something. I leave for Greece on June 27 and come back August 17. So just in case you swing by during that time period, thats why there will be no updates until August :)

This is still a work in progress. I am about halfway through importing my Xanga archive and comments. There are also issues with Internet Explorer I have to deal with. This site is 100% XHTML compliant yet IE is too fucked up of a web browser and keeps screwing up the layout and shit. Use FireFox if you don’t want problems with my site.
